Over weight FCT residents use Apple Cider Vinegar for weight loss


Abuja – Some residents of the Federal Capital territory (FCT) who are overweight, especially ladies have embraced the use of Apple Cider Vinegar for weight loss.

The consumption of Apple Cider Vinegar also known as ACV, had become a health trend being promoted on social media platforms to promote good health and weight loss.

Dr Tammy Thompson, a general practitioner, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that ACV had many health benefits aside from aiding weight loss.

“ACV is known to contain a lot of organic acids and enzymes which speed up ones metabolism therefore reducing fat accumulation and controlling insulin levels.

“It is also able to reduce cravings or suppress appetites, but it is also helpful with fighting high cholesterol, digestion acid reflux, kidney stones and diabetes.

“When an individual drinks ACV, the organic contents help detoxify the system which flushes out the toxins that are causing imbalance in chemicals produced by the body.

“However, vinegar is too harsh to be drunk undiluted, so people should just add a spoon of ACV to their water,” she said.

Sarah Daniels, a makeup artist, said that she learnt about the craze for vinegar on Instagram and decided to try it.

“I have always struggled with my weight, until I read about it on social media, many slim and beautiful ladies flaunt their looks and I want to be like them and that is why I decided to use it.

“This vinegar has proven to help suppress appetite which is important when you want to lose weight.

“Most of us overweight people can’t really tell when we are actually hungry and when we just feel like eating due to boredom or stress,’’ she said.

Chisom Ugwu, a legal practitioner, said that she had used ACV to clean her environment and treat her hair but recently started drinking it to control her weight.

“I have always used it as a cleaning agent and a disinfectant instead of those harsh chemicals that contain bleach and other chemicals that we don’t know about.

“I also use it on my hair after I shampoo it like a conditioner because it softens my hair and reduces hair breakage.

“I recently got in on the trend for weight loss and I must say it has helped a bit.

“I mix it with my water and drink before eating and I noticed I eat less of my portions now.

“I also used to have heartburn after eating beans, but that has stopped now because of this new practice.”
