How to go from a makeup disaster to a makeup pro

Do you hate doing your makeup?

Not only because it’s time-consuming, but because you honestly have no idea where to begin? Eyes, lips, cheeks – so many facial features to cover, highlight and contour!

Don’t worry, you are not alone.

It all comes down to nailing the basics, really.

Keep it simple, clean and fresh and believe me, it will make a world of difference. Not only to the way you look physically, but to the way you carry yourself.

Makeup can be fun, trust me.

Sometimes all you need is a few beauty gifs to explain things a bit…

Here’s how to go from feeling like this…

To this!!!

1. Start with your eyes. Try the cat eye.

Getting that feline flick just right can be tricky. Here’s a tip: first draw the wing to make sure they are symmetrical on both sides. Then fill in the rest of the line. Remember: earbuds are your best friends when drawing a cat-eye AND cheap liquid or gel liners often work much better than really pricey ones.

2. Mascara. The best mascara tip I’ve ever received was from Sylvie Hurford, the official makeup artist for L’Oreal Paris SA. Don’t re-apply mascara during the day, rather apply some liquid eyeliner to your lashes when touching up mascara. This will avoid clumping.

3. Love how lipstick looks but it tends to bleed onto your teeth?

Try blotting your lips with a tissue after applying lipstick, then dust with translucent powder. Or best trick ever: try the index finger trick. It works like a charm.

4. Look like a dewy ice princess.

Strobing is the new contouring. Rather highlight your cheeks, nose and Cupid’s bow with an illuminating pen, liquid foundation or powder instead of opting for contouring.
