Opinion: Ten Good Reasons To Quit Your Job In 2017

Every new year is a wake-up call.

We only get seventy-five or eighty years on this planet if we are lucky. Is your job the best place for you to spend your precious 12 months of 2017? Now is the perfect time to mull over that question!

If we are honest, most of us remain at so-so jobs for these reasons:

1. I already know the job, the people and the politics — and it’s such a pain to job-hunt.

2. If I quit my job and start a new one, what if things don’t work  out?

3. I’m not sure what kind of job I’d want if I weren’t working at my current job.

4. Maybe I’m too old to start over.

Let’s knock down these lame excuses for staying in an unsatisfying job, one by one!

If you already know your job cold, it means you’re no longer learning new things. If you’re not learning, your brain is atrophying. That’s not good for you! Only new learning keeps you sharp and marketable.

If you take a new job, it’s possible that things might not work out. If you stay at your current job, you could lose the job next week.

There are conversations taking place around conference tables in Hong Kong and Philadelphia right now that will put people out of work this month.

Most of us have little to no influence over our job security in any one job — but we have massive influence over our income security as working people, if we stay awake and aware!

If you don’t know what you want from your career, join the club! It’s a common problem. It’s worth your time to stop and look around you, think about your goals and figure out what you want from the rest of your working life.

That’s a worthwhile exercise not only for job-seekers, but for everyone.

You might be too old to start over in a new career, but only if you are over 100 already — and even that is not always true!
