The Orange Is the New Black star will lead a one-night-only reading of the James Baldwin play.
Color Purple and Orange Is the New Black star Danielle Brooks will perform a one-night-only reading of James Baldwin’s The Amen Corner November 28 at Classic Stage Company.
Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed) will direct the 7 PM reading that will also include Adeola Role, Mirirai Sithole, Phumzile Sithole, Christina Redd, Brandon Jones, Curtiss Cook Jr, Kevin Mambo, Cristina Pitter, and Folami Williams.
Set in 1950s Harlem, The Amen Corner is the story of Pastor Margaret Alexander, a woman who insists on living a purely religious life. Her hypocrisy is exposed and her relationships with her son David and her congregation are threatened with the arrival of her estranged husband Luke.
The reading will be presented as part of CSC’s First Look Festival.
