The Lagos State Government on Thursday inaugurated the Epe Master Plan with a promise to turn the ancient town to another Dubai in Nigeria.
The government added that the new plan captured farming and tourist sites, as well as airport and other muilti-billion naira projects.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifowoshe, at an interactive session with the residents in Epe, also called for cooperation for speedy implementation of the plan.
He assured those whose houses were affected by the ongoing urban renewal projects in the area that they would be adequately compensated.
The commissioner commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the projects being executed in the ancient town, adding that his intervention had stopped government’s neglect of the Epe area.
He said, “It is good that the projects are being done now because it might be a long time before we have another governor from Epe. Let us tell ourselves the home truth.”
The General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, LASPPPA, Remi Oni-Orisan, said the gathering was meant to deepen people’s understanding of the Epe area’s renewal.
Oni-Orisan said, “We don’t want a situation where there will be huge losses and bad blood between the government and the governed.
“As more people choose to live and build in cities, the responsibility of planning and managing the developmental process becomes herculean, especially in the area where development is often championed by profit driven individuals. Meanwhile, the responsibility of providing infrastructure is abandoned to the government,” he added.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Communications, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan said the development in the ancient town would boost residents’ living standard.
